I.     STATEMENT

Under certain circumstances, monetary rewards may be appropriate to assist criminal investigation of campus-related incidents. Only the Chancellor is authorized to offer such rewards on behalf of the campus.  It should be noted that monetary rewards will not be considered appropriate in most situations, and will be offered only when circumstances indicate that a reward will be particularly effective in the successful prosecution of a criminal investigation. University employees whose job functions include investigation of criminal incidents are not eligible for such rewards.

All requests for monetary rewards should be directed by the head or designated representative of the campus unit desiring such a reward to the Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Safety Officer for review of form and for transmittal to the Chancellor.  Requests should include at least the following information:

• the campus unit requesting the reward;

• a description of the incident;

• a brief statement from the Chief of Police or their designee of the criminal incident involved and the reasons why a monetary reward would be appropriate; and

• fund source and amount, subject to verification by Academic Planning & Budget. Contract and grant funds, and 19900 funds will not be used to support monetary rewards.
