Effective APP Description
5/01/1999 Pol 992 Use of Biohazardous Materials and Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules in Research and Teaching Activities. Revised policy describes how UCLA complies with NIH Guidelines for research involving recombinant DNA. This policy supersedes UCLA Policy 1140, dated January 1, 1984.
2/25/2019 Pol 992 Use of Biohazardous Materials and Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules in Research and Teaching Activities. This policy has been revised and a few of the changes include: a change of policy name to “Use of Biohazardous Materials and Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules in Research and Teaching Activities,” expands IBC scope beyond compliance with the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules and defines department and individual responsibilities.
6/28/2022 Pol 992 Use of Biohazardous Materials and Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules in Research and Teaching Activities. In 2020, the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) modified their oversight regarding clinical research activities that did not include materials covered by the National Institute of Health (NIH) Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules. Previously, the IBC sought to review/approve these activities, but considering the role of Health System infection control, their review was ultimately determined to be redundant. Policy 992 has been updated to reflect this change.
